Guide

Can Lovable build mobile apps?

Not native ones. Lovable builds web apps designed for phones, which people install from the home screen as a progressive web app (PWA), but it can't publish to the App Store or Google Play; for the stores, you wrap the published app with Capacitor outside Lovable.

What it builds

What kind of mobile app can Lovable build?

A web app built for phones. Lovable's FAQ says it “builds web applications, which you can design to be fully mobile friendly, and it does not generate React Native projects.” Publishing always deploys to a web address, such as yourproject.lovable.app or your own domain.

Make the app installable and it becomes a PWA: people add it to their home screen and launch it like a native app, with offline support and a full-screen shell. Lovable's iPhone page says these apps can take photos, share location and record audio with what Safari already supports.

For internal tools that is a good trade: a published change reaches users without store review.

iOS and Android

Can Lovable build iOS and Android apps?

iPhone: Lovable's iOS builder page answers “Can I publish my app on the App Store?” with “No.” iPhone users open the app in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. You don't need a Mac or Xcode, because you build by chatting in the browser.

Android: same answer for Google Play. Users open the app in Chrome and tap Install app or Add to Home screen. You don't need Android Studio or Kotlin, and there is no Google Play review.

Stores

How do you get a Lovable app into the stores?

Lovable's publish docs give one route: wrap your published web address in a native shell with Capacitor, outside Lovable, and submit that shell to the App Store or Google Play. They call it the right path when you need native device APIs such as camera, push notifications or biometrics, or when a store requires a “real” native binary.

  1. Technical help. Capacitor isn't part of Lovable. Plan on a developer for wrapping, building and submitting.
  2. Developer accounts. Apple's Developer Program costs $99 a year (local prices may vary); Google Play charges a $25 one-time registration fee.
  3. Google's testing rule. Personal Google Play accounts created after November 13, 2023 must run a closed test with at least 12 testers opted in for at least 14 days before applying for production access.
  4. Store review. Updates to the native shell go through review, unlike PWA updates.

If you need a true React Native app, Lovable's docs suggest prototyping the screens in Lovable and rebuilding them in React Native outside it.

Scope

What else comes with a Lovable phone app?

  • Backend: Lovable Cloud includes a managed PostgreSQL database, login and file storage, or you connect your own Supabase project.
  • Sign-in options: email and password, phone through your own SMS provider, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Lovable accounts and SAML SSO.
  • Hosting: publishing to a lovable.app address is free on all plans; paid plans add your own domain.

Cost

How much does Lovable cost for a mobile web app?

  • Free, $0: publishes to lovable.app; 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month.
  • Pro, $25 a month or $250 a year (about $21 a month): 100 credits, custom domain, removes the “Edit with Lovable” badge.
  • Business, $50 a month or $500 a year: adds SSO and internal publish. See Lovable Business vs Pro.

Our arithmetic: Pro annual is $250 against $25 × 12 = $300, two months free. A PWA has no store fees, so a year of Pro is $250. Usage beyond the included Cloud and AI grants and extra credits can add to that; see Lovable credits explained.

What does a store app cost instead?

  • First year to reach phones, billed annually

Builder plan for 12 months plus store fees ($99 Apple + $25 Google = $124).

    1. Lovable Pro, PWA only$250
    2. Replit Core + stores$340*
    3. Bolt.new Pro + stores$340*
    4. Base44 Builder + stores$604

*Replit and Bolt.new don't name a plan for store publishing; Core and Pro are our assumption. The Lovable PWA route has no store fees and no store listing.

Among the builders we track, three describe a route to the stores in their own docs:

  • Base44 generates App Store (IPA) and Google Play (AAB) files on the Builder plan or higher ($50 a month, $40 billed annually). The app is a lightweight native wrapper that runs your published web app in a web view.
  • Replit builds mobile apps with Expo and uploads to App Store Connect from its Publishing tab. Its docs describe App Store publishing; we found no Google Play guide.
  • Bolt.new builds with Expo and publishes to both stores through Expo's command-line tools on your computer.

Bubble, which we haven't rated yet, also publishes native store apps on a paid Mobile plan (Mobile Starter $49 a month, $42 billed annually). Full ranking: best AI app builder for iOS and Android.

Decision

Should you build your phone app in Lovable?

  1. The users are your staff or known clients. Build in Lovable as a PWA. Share the link, ask people to add it to their home screen, and skip developer accounts and store review.
  2. You need push notifications or biometrics, but the app is still internal. Build in Lovable, then budget for a developer to wrap it with Capacitor. Check the native feature is really required first.
  3. Customers must find the app in the App Store or Google Play. Start with a builder whose docs describe store publishing, rather than wrapping later.

Lovable app

Is the Lovable mobile app the same thing?

No. Lovable has its own iOS and Android app for building from your phone, with the same account, projects and credits. Its docs say this app doesn't turn your project into a native app for your users. One billing quirk: plans bought inside the iOS app cover one month and don't renew.

FAQ

Common questions

Can Lovable make an iOS app?

It makes web apps designed for iPhone, which users add to their home screen from Safari. Lovable's iOS page answers "Can I publish my app on the App Store?" with "No." To get there, you wrap the published app with Capacitor outside Lovable and submit it yourself.

Can Lovable build Android apps?

As installable web apps, yes; as Google Play apps, no. Android users install the app from Chrome with Install app or Add to Home screen. Lovable has no built-in Google Play publishing.

Can I publish a Lovable app to the App Store?

Can Lovable build a backend for a phone app?

Yes. Every project can use Lovable Cloud, which includes a managed PostgreSQL database, login and file storage, or connect to your own Supabase project. Lovable creates the database tables from your description.

Does Lovable generate React Native code?

No. Lovable builds web apps. Its docs suggest prototyping screens and flows in Lovable, then rebuilding them in React Native outside Lovable if you need a React Native app.

Is the Lovable mobile app for building apps?
