Guide
Can you export code from Lovable?
Yes. Every Lovable plan, including Free, can sync a project to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket with two-way Git sync, and paid plans (Pro from $25 a month) add a one-click ZIP download. Lovable says you own the code and can host it anywhere; your database exports separately.

Git sync
How do you export Lovable code to GitHub?
Git sync is Lovable's main export route, and its plan table lists it on every plan, including Free. Changes made in Lovable go to the repository, and changes pushed to the active branch sync back into Lovable.
- Connect the workspace. A workspace owner or admin installs the Lovable GitHub app (Workspace settings → Git → GitHub).
- Connect the project. A workspace or project owner or admin opens Project settings → Git and connects. Lovable creates a new repository and starts syncing.
- Work anywhere. You or a developer can edit in any tool and push changes back.
Before you rely on it, from Lovable's docs:
- Repositories are private by default.
- It always creates a new repository. You can't connect one that already exists.
- One branch at a time, by default the repository's default branch, usually main.
- Disconnecting keeps your code: the repository and its history stay on GitHub.
- Don't delete the repository. That stops the sync; renaming it doesn't.
ZIP
Can you download Lovable code as a ZIP?
Yes, on paid plans. Anyone with edit access can click Download codebase at the bottom of the code editor's file panel, or use the Download codebase section in Project settings → Git, to save the whole project as a .zip file. No GitHub needed.
- Free plan: the code editor is read-only. The Download button above an open file saves one file at a time, on any plan.
- Enterprise: admins can restrict ZIP downloads to workspace admins and owners.
A ZIP is a snapshot. For ongoing work outside Lovable, the docs recommend Git sync instead.
Free
Can you export Lovable code for free?
Yes, through Git sync. It is included on the Free plan, so you can put the full code in a private repository you control without paying Lovable. What Free doesn't give you is code editing inside Lovable or the one-click Download codebase button; both start on Pro. Try it on Lovable's free plan before you build anything large.
Contents
What does a Lovable export include?
The code. Lovable's FAQ says every project uses the same stack: TanStack Start for apps created from May 13, 2026 (June 22, 2026 for Enterprise workspaces), React and Vite for older apps, and a PostgreSQL database through Lovable Cloud or Supabase. You can't choose another framework.
Not the database. Your app's data is separate from the code. Lovable's docs describe Export project data under More → Cloud → Overview → Advanced settings: the full database structure and data, including user accounts and password hashes, but not stored files, Edge Function code or secrets. The docs don't say which plans can use it, and the plan table separately lists a “Data exports” feature on Enterprise only without saying whether it is the same thing.
Ownership. Lovable's pricing page says you own your code, customer data stored in Lovable and the AI output you generate, subject to third-party rights in the underlying AI models. The FAQ adds that you can host apps wherever you choose.
So leaving Lovable means exporting the code, exporting the data, and recreating file storage, server functions and secrets on the new host.
WordPress
Can you export Lovable code to WordPress?
Lovable's docs don't describe a WordPress export. What you get is a TanStack Start or React app, which runs as its own app or site. If your website runs on WordPress, link to the Lovable app from it, and ask a developer before planning any migration.
Cost
Which Lovable plan should you buy for export?
If export is all you need, Pro is the cheapest plan with the ZIP button: $25 a month, or $250 a year. Our arithmetic: $25 × 12 = $300 against $250, two months free. Business adds governance, not more export options; see Lovable Business vs Pro. If you only need the code once, Free plus Git sync is enough.
How do other AI app builders handle export?
-
Code to GitHub or ZIP and database collections as CSV, on Builder or higher ($40 billed annually). Hosting, auth and database infrastructure stay behind.
-
Bolt's docs describe downloading a project as a zip; they don't tie it to a plan. Bolt Cloud table rows export as CSV or JSON.
-
Export code or use bi-directional GitHub sync. v0's pricing page lists Sync with GitHub on Free.
-
A code editor, not an app builder. We rate it 2/5: someone technical has to own deployment, domains and updates.
Windsurf, like Cursor, is a code editor we rate 2/5 for non-coders. Bubble is the exception among no-code platforms: its manual says Bubble apps can only run on Bubble and can't be exported as code; see Lovable vs Bubble. Head-to-heads: Lovable vs Base44, Lovable vs Bolt.new, Lovable vs v0.
FAQ
Common questions
Can I export my code from Lovable for free?
Yes. Git sync to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket is included on the Free plan, so your full code can live in a private repository you control. The one-click Download codebase ZIP and code editing inside Lovable need a paid plan.
How do I download my Lovable project as a ZIP?
On a paid plan, click Download codebase at the bottom of the code editor's file panel, or use the Download codebase section in Project settings, then Git. Anyone with edit access can do it. On Enterprise, admins can limit it to admins and owners.
Do I need GitHub to export Lovable code?
Not on a paid plan: Download codebase saves a ZIP without GitHub. On the Free plan, Git sync is the way to get the whole codebase, and it needs a GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket account.
Does exporting Lovable code include my database?
No. The data is separate from the code. Lovable's docs describe an Export project data option in the Cloud advanced settings that leaves out stored files, Edge Function code and secrets. Lovable doesn't state which plans can use it.
Who owns the code Lovable generates?
You do, according to Lovable. Its pricing page says you own your code, customer data stored in Lovable and the AI output you generate, subject to third-party rights in the underlying AI models. Lovable's FAQ says you can host the apps wherever you choose.
Can I connect Lovable to an existing GitHub repository?
No. Connecting a project always creates a new repository, private by default. Disconnecting keeps that repository and its history on GitHub.
